The Association of Woodturners of Great Britain AWGB
An international non-profit making organisation, formed in August 1987 and dedicated to the advancement and promotion of woodturning. It has an elected executive consisting of both amateur and professional turners. It has individual members, corporate members, affiliated and associated branches throughout the country. The current membership is in excess of 3000 individuals.
The Worshipful Company of Woodturners
One of the oldest Livery Companies in the City of London, the Turners’ Company was already a guild in the 12th Century. Some 200 years later, Edward III decreed that ‘wooden measures, as well for wine as for ale’ should be made only by ‘turnours’ – and the medieval turners established the English ‘pint’ as an official measure.
Mastering Woodworking
The following links have been provided by Jackson Costa, who whilst working towards gaining his Woodwork Merit Badge with the Boy Scouts he came to the conclusion that mastering woodworking requires both foundational skills to build a project from scratch and also the knowledge to preserve and protect the wood once it is finished.
